Wendell A. "Bill" Schwartz, 89, formerly of Fort Wayne, passed away March 21, 2011, in Bluffton.
He was born Aug. 21, 1921, in Allen County, to the late Glen A. and Ethel Motz Schwartz. He married Doris Elzey, who preceded him in death.
He retired from Walker G. Mulligan as a food salesman in 1989. Scott's Food Store, Waynedale, provided a part-time job in retirement. He spent his whole career in the food industry. He often could be found enjoying time at the lake, cheering for the Cubs, or watching his grandkids play ball. He was a long-time member of South Wayne United Methodist Church and more recently attended Avalon Missionary Church.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed and thought of often by all those who loved and knew him well.
Surviving are his children, Ron (and spouse Dian) Schwartz, Milford; Dave (and spouse Jo) Schwartz, Fort Wayne; and Steve (and spouse Patty) Schwartz, Syracuse; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; a brother, Hershel Schwartz, Bluffton; and sisters-in-law, Maxine Dentel and Viva Falk, both of Bluffton. He was also preceded in death sister, Hilda Archbold.
Service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home for Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Road, Fort Wayne. Burial will be in Hoverstock Cemetery.
Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.
