MENTONE — Welcome W. Fore Jr., 91, rural Mentone, died at 11:10 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at his residence.
He was born Aug. 16, 1926, in Mentone, to Welcome and Anna Ooley Fore. On July 31, 1948, in Rochester, he married Deloris M. Ginther; she preceded on Dec. 27, 2005.
He had worked at Manwaring Leghorn Farms and Midwest Poultry, where he was a maintenance man.
He was a graduate of Mentone High School, where he played basketball and softball. He served his country during World War II in the Navy. As a part of the Seabees he served in the Philippines and China.
He was a member of the American Legion and VFW, both of Warsaw. He loved sports and was known for his pitching in fast-pitch softball with Hersh Lynn catching. He enjoyed attending Tippecanoe Valley basketball games, auctions and playing euchre.
Survivors include two grandsons, Brandon (wife Eldora) Fore, Mentone, and Cory (wife Sherri) Fore, Argos; and great-grandchildren: Dale, Brandon Jr., Chloe Fore and Robert Williams.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Deloris Fore; and sons, Don Allen and Larry Fore.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday, March 23, in King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone, with Pastor Jason Rice officiating. Burial will be in Mentone Cemetery, with graveside military rites being performed by American Legion Post 49, Warsaw.
Visitation is from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at King Memorial Home.
