The Warsaw Education Foundation has surpassed the $200,000 mark in Red Apple Grants awarded to teachers in Warsaw Community Schools.

Started in 1990, the WEF Red Apple Grant Program has provided funding every year since for innovative programs and enrichment opportunities for students and teachers in Warsaw Community Schools. This milestone was achieved Jan. 4 when more than $7,000 was awarded to six teachers for their projects designed to encourage academic growth in their students.

Red Apple Grants awarded for January are:

- Gina Courtois, Madison Elementary School, for her Kindergarten Literacy Centers materials that will provide kindergarten students with opportunities in writing, reading, rhyming, spelling, listening, sentence structure and reading skills at their level.

- Patty Perkins, Madison Elementary School, for her BookFLIX - Interactive Video Storybooks subscription that will provide literacy opportunities for students online at school, home, the public library or anywhere there is Internet access to strengthen reading fluency, comprehension and vocabulary.

- Risa Young, Madison Elementary School, for her First-Graders as Published Authors and Illustrators project which will aid in teaching students good writing, editing and revision techniques as they compose original stories to be published in individual hardcover books.

- Julie Bishopp, Leesburg Elementary School, for her Math Manipulatives on the Move materials that will provide a cart full of math activity kits, games, puzzles, geometric shapes and more to help teach students mathematical concepts in several classrooms at Leesburg.
