Weekend accidents on ice included a Claypool man being injured at Yellow Creek Lake and a car going through the ice on Ridinger Lake.

Audra Dial, 66, of South Valentine Road, Claypool, suffered a dislocated shoulder when he lost control of the snowmobile he was operating and it rolled over. Dial was treated at Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw, and later released.

According to a Department of Natural Resources report, Dial was taking the machine on a test run after recently getting it to work, and he was traveling at about 25 mph when the snowmobile started sliding on the ice.

Damage to the snowmobile was estimated at $100.

No injuries were reported in the Ridinger Lake incident when a vehicle went through the ice in a channel.

Officials said Mason D. Booth, 32, of Mishawaka, and three occupants in his vehicle escaped the vehicle without assistance. However, divers from Warsaw Police Department were required to hook a cable onto the vehicle so it could be pulled from the water.

A DNR report indicated Booth was driving on the frozen surface when the vehicle broke through the ice and was submerged in about 6 feet of water. Officials said the thickness of the ice ranges from 1 inch to 10 inches and that driving on the surface "is a very unsafe act to perform."
