SYRACUSE – A Wednesday afternoon collision sent one vehicle into a pond and three people to the hospital.
First responders were called at 11:52 a.m. Wednesday to the intersection of East CR 1300N and North CR 300E, Syracuse, to a report of two SUVs colliding.
Upon arrival, police determined a black 2002 Ford Explorer being driven by Debra J. Cox, 53, CR 29, Syracuse, was traveling north on CR 300E when she pulled into the path of a white 2019 Jeep Commander that was traveling west on CR 1300N.
The Jeep was driven by Don A. Troyer, 83, of North Creek Bend Lane, Milford, and included his passenger, Helen D. Troyer, 78, of the same address.
The impact resulted in the Jeep going off the north side of CR 1300N, west of CR 300E striking a phone box, then continuing west through a yard and coming to a rest in a small pond. According to the crash report, the Troyers were both trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated.
Don was taken by ambulance to Goshen Hospital to be treated for complaint of entire body pain, and Cox also was taken by ambulance to Goshen Hospital for complaint of shoulder and upper arm pain. Helen was taken by a private vehicle to an area hospital for complaint of entire body pain, according to the report.
Cox told police that after she stopped at the stop sign at the intersection that she did see the Jeep but thought the intersection was a four-way stop.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene, and police estimated damage to be between $25,000 and $50,000.
