A North Webster woman is charged with battery of a police officer after she was arrested late Friday night in North Webster.
Alisa Kay Burnworth, 33, of 215 S. Main St., was arrested by the North Webster Police Department when an officer on patrol reportedly spotted her staggering across a parking lot.
Deputy Marshal Darrell Sopher arrested her for public intoxication when she allegedly admitted she was walking home from drinking at an area tavern.
Sopher reported Burnworth allegedly hit him in the shoulder and face while he was arresting her. As he drove her to the Kosciusko County Jail, Sopher called for officer assistance, saying Burnworth was trying to get out of her handcuffs.
The Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department and Indiana State Police responded at the intersection of Armstrong Road and CR 475E.
According to sheriff's reports, Burnworth allegedly shouted obscenities at the officers and resisted their attempts to calm her down.
When the officers took Burnworth out of the squad car to reportedly keep her from damaging the car, police report Burnworth continued to shout. The officers reportedly tried to put leg shackles on Burnworth when she allegedly spit on a sheriff's deputy.
Police then reportedly put the leg shackles on Burnworth and took her to the jail without further incident.
She is charged with battery, public intoxication and resisting/fleeing law enforcement. She was released from jail on $5,000 bond.
