Webster Wants More Supervision At Park

Posted
NORTH WEBSTER – Supervision of children was an issue at the North Webster Town Council meeting Tuesday night.
Councilman Tim Hine said he was near the town park recently and saw a large group of kids at varying ages playing in the park.
‘“Not one of them looked 18 years old,” said Hine.
One of the park’s rules is that anyone in the park under the age of 18 must be supervised. Hine expressed concern that the children were unattended and that some were playing on the pier.
He referenced the drowning of 3-year-old Anddrew Croucher. Croucher drowned in Webster Lake in May 2010.
Croucher had adult supervision at the time of his drowning.
Hine suggested that police on duty take time to patrol the park and make sure children underage weren’t alone in the park.
Town Marshal Greg Church said that the county is moving its radio frequency from a wide band to a narrow band in January 2013.
The police department is ready with radios programmed for the switch.
The street department, however, will need three new radios and for them to be programmed.
The council approved purchasing three new radios for $1,363 from ERS.
A bid was accepted from Day Tree  Trimming and Removal for $1,300 to remove trees from town property.
The property is located on Syracuse-Webster Road.
It was noted during the meeting that North Webster had eight inches of rain in April.
The North Webster American Legion Auxiliary will be offering Poppy Flowers for donations May 21 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Memorial Day Parade will be May 30.
The board will hold a budget meeting June 21 at 8:15 a.m.
Those interested in running for the North Webster Town Council have until Aug. 1 at noon to file.
All three board members, according to clerk treasurer Betsy Luce, plan on filing.
