NORTH WEBSTER - North Webster Community Center Inc. purchased the old North Webster Elementary School building and surrounding 6.12 acres from the Wawasee School Corp. for $1.
The nominal fee is the traditional exchange between government entities, although North Webster Community Center Inc. is a not-for-profit corporation organized for the purpose of acquiring the old school building.
Town attorney Mike Armey said Tuesday, following an executive session of the town council, officers of NWCC are town council members Kay Andrews, president; Ken Wagoner, vice president and assistant secretary; Jeff Morgan, vice president; and Peg Lawrance, secretary/treasurer.
The contract also calls for the Center to pay for a title search and survey.
The school corporation will pay utilities until March 1.
The proposal is expected to be approved at the Tuesday school board meeting at the new elementary school building on CR 750E.
Lawrance said the terms are what the school board requested.
She also mentioned upcoming meetings regarding the old elementary building: Monday at 6 p.m. a decision on architectural, administrative, environmental and labor services in town hall; and Monday at 7 p.m. at the old elementary school a public hearing regarding the proposed senior center. Senior citizens are urged to attend that meeting.
On March 4 at 3:30 p.m. in town hall Indiana Department of Commerce officials will meet to discuss the project and tour the facility.
