Webster Proposes '04 Budget

NORTH WEBSTER - The town council board presented the 2004 budget of $891,431 in a public hearing Wednesday; there were no comments from two residents who attended the meeting.

The certified "official" assessed valuation is given as $54 million. The tax levy is expected to raise $323,030.

The general fund budget estimate was given as $625,542. Included in general fund expenses are $6,000 for town council members, $17,450 for the clerk-treasurer (sewage revenues provide the other half of the clerk-treasurer's salary), $170,000 for the police department, $14,000 for town hall employees, $8,000 for miscellaneous labor and $5,000 for a park employee. Benefits total $67,665.

Professional services include $60,000 to Severn-Trent and $25,000 for the town hall.

A move to a portion of the North Webster Community Center is anticipated in 2004. Another $15,000 for the town hall is listed under improvements other than buildings along with a $59,587 special County Option Income Tax distribution. The cumulative capital improvement fund lists another $15,607 for town hall improvements.

The North Webster - Tippecanoe Valley Library will receive $22,825 as a capital outlay.

A figure of $73,025 was presented for sidewalk improvements in the economic development fund.

Adoption of the 2004 budget will be at noon Sept. 15 in town hall. Town council members are Kay Andrews, Ken Wagoner and Jeff Morgan.
