NORTH WEBSTER - Bids were opened Wednesday by the North Webster Town Council for the infrastructure portion of the senior citizen housing project.
Six bids, ranging from $407,000 to $699,000, were received.
The matter was tabled for council members to review the bids and ensure that they meet the required specifications.
The bid cannot be awarded until the town receives promised grant money from the Indiana Housing Finance Authority.
The town was awarded $500,000 from the IHFA, as well as a $400,000 grant from the Indiana Department of Commerce to aid in construction of the $1.53 million project.
The housing project will consist of 10 duplexes on the property northwest of the United Methodist Church at Epworth Forest.
In a related matter, officials told Jerry Moore, whose property is adjacent to the housing site, that all precautions necessary will be taken to avoid water run-off onto his land. Moore apparently already has a problem with water on his property and, while the town can't promise to better his situation, they assured him that they wouldn't make it worse.
In other business, Jason Ray was sworn in as a reserve officer for the summer. Ray, a criminal law major, will work to fulfill a college internship.
The next meeting is at 7 p.m. June 11 in the town hall.
