A North Webster man was jailed Wednesday after allegedly telephoning a bomb threat to a Syracuse company last month.
Nathan J. Weldy, 24, of 6660 Sixth Trail, was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on charges of false informing and criminal mischief. He was released after posting a $5,000 bond.
According to court documents, Weldy called Parker-Goshen (formerly Syracuse Rubber Products) on Oct. 31 and said there were bombs in the building.
A trace of the call returned to Weldy's home telephone number. Because Weldy was an employee of the business at the time the call was made, the number was matched to Weldy's personnel information and police took over the investigation.
Syracuse Town Marshal Tom Perzanowski said his department takes all bomb threats "very seriously" and "we will pursue charges against anyone who makes such a call, even if it's in jest."
Officials at Parker-Goshen estimate, according to the probable cause affidavit, that the company lost $25,000 by shutting down to search the building for a possible bomb.
