Webster Looks To Heat Sewage Plant With Recycled Motor Oil

Posted

NORTH WEBSTER - Town officials are considering an alternative form of heating the sewage plant at North Webster.

Public works superintendent Marshall Minnick presented information to the town council Wednesday regarding a furnace fueled by used motor oil. If the town opts to install the unit, Minnick said it would pay for itself in a year.

A representative of the company with which Minnick discussed the matter is willing to allow the town to use the furnace until the end of the year without obligation to determine whether it will work to the town's satisfaction.

The matter was presented for review only and may be discussed at the September meeting.

In other business, the council will begin negotiations with Triax Cable regarding contract renewal. The 15-year initial contract ends in December, but town officials will likely sign for a lesser amount of time in the renewal.

In other matters, the council:

• Approved $765 from the park board account for the purchase of benches. Also, it was announced that the North Webster Lioness Club donated two handicap-accessible picnic tables for the park pavilion.

nAnnounced that Sept. 12 is "Neighbors Make the Difference Day." This event is a nationwide one in which banks close for half a day and employees offer their services to clean up cities and towns. In North Webster, Key Bank employees will spend four hours working in the park.

• Issued a reminder of budget meetings. The hearing is at 7 p.m. Monday, with adoption set for noon Aug. 26. Both meetings will take place in the town hall.

The next regular meeting is at 7 p.m. Sept. 11. It will begin with a hearing on the Department of Commerce grant for senior citizen housing.
