NORTH WEBSTER - Bids for construction of the structures in the senior citizen housing project were presented during the North Webster Town Council meeting Wednesday.
The bids were opened during a special session at 5 p.m. and presented to the public during the regular meeting at 7 p.m.
The council is preliminarily recommending that Housing Finance Authority award the contract for the work to the low bidder, D.J. Construction of Goshen, which submitted a bid of $1,054,000.
Other bidders were T.L. Jackson Construction Inc. of Syracuse at $1,154,000 and Michiana Construction of Plymouth at $1,200,000.
Although the town makes the recommendation, HFA will actually award the contract for the work. Whether the job will be offered to D.J. Construction depends on whether their time schedule will meet with the needs of the project.
In other business, the council denied a request from the Lions Club to have a beer tent on festival grounds during a concert Oct. 18.
The organization received permission last month to have the property enclosed by fencing so they could have what they called "crowd control" during events there.
Annexation approval was signed for the White farm. The 10-acre property located between Blaine Street and the sewage plant will be developed for single-family dwellings.
The development proposal has already been approved by the Kosciusko County Plan Commission and will next go before the Kosciusko County Commissioners.
The council conducted the 1998 budget hearing without remonstrance. Adoption of the budget is set for noon Sept. 19.
The next regular meeting is at 7 p.m. Oct. 15 in the town hall.
