NORTH WEBSTER - The town's newest option for family fun will be an 18-hole miniature golf course with a huge white oak as its centerpiece.
Construction begins this spring, next to the Scrub-A-Dub Laundry on Main Street (Ind. 13) across from the old Adventureland.
There are a few things owners Chris Bruno and her husband, Dennis, definitely know about the Fairway Inc.-designed course.
"We wanted something that was family-oriented," Chris said. "There isn't much for families to do together. We thought about a lot of things and people kept talking about the old course at the same location. I think it's going to be great for the town."
What the Brunos don't know is what to call the facility and they'd like suggestions.
Each hole's "fairway" borders are curved and the holes are moveable. It will present one set of challenges one visit and others the next. The tees meander throughout the course, beginning and ending on the south side.
Plans, on display at the Bruno's Scrub-A-Dub Laundry, show a waterfall along the east side, a pond on the west end and a stream of water connecting the two along the north and south.
The course will open at 6 a.m., although the evening hours are not yet determined, maybe until 10 p.m. during the week and until midnight on the weekends, Chris said.
Lighting on the course will match the town's ornamental street lights.
Patrons of the laundromat will be able to start clothes washing and enjoy part of a round. A stamped ticket will allow them to re-enter the course after putting their washed clothes into a dryer.
"It's a lot better than sitting in the laundry for an hour and a half," Chris said.
Course name suggestions can be sent to BCB Inc. in care of Chris Bruno, P.O. Box 229, North Webster IN 46555.
Include the proposed name for the course, your name, address and telephone number. Suggestions also may be dropped off at the Scrub-A-Dub Laundromat. The deadline is March 5.
The entry winner will receive a permanent plaque at the course for naming the course, a gift card for 25 free games as well as $25 worth of dry cleaning or drop off services at Scrub-A-Dub.
