Webster Council OKs Paying Half Of Resident's Grass CostsNORTH WEBSTER – North Webster Town Council on Tuesday approved to reimburse half a resident’s expenses to take care of the tree lawn in front of his house.
Resident Larry Kinsey said he thought he had an infestation of grubs so he treated the lawn for grubs and planted grass seed. After going to Florida, the tree lawn was eaten again.
Kinsey had previously gone before the Council and he was told to keep track of his expenses and the Council would see if they had money in the rainy day fund or another fund to help out. Kinsey said he has spent $1,058 with Dreamscapes to repair the tree lawn, which is the grassy area between the sidewalk and the street.
Kinsey said he had Dreamscapes put in new grass.
Councilman Larry Waliczek said he doesn’t like reimbursing Kinsey because if the Council did that, then it opens the door to it happening again when a resident wants work done. However, he said it would still cost the town money to send someone down and do the work. He made the offer of having the town pay for half the cost and Kinsey said he thought that was great. The Council approved paying half of Kinsey’s costs.
Waliczek said the property looks very nice.
Another repair the Council is looking at is the Lake Lube trench. Council President Dan Thystrup said there have been several quotes to repair the trench. Thystrup said he is waiting on another quote.
Thystrup said the trench is a metal grate that is eating its way through the asphalt near Lake Lube Auto Repair.
Waliczek asked if the trench was the town’s responsibility.
Clerk-Treasurer Betsy Luce said she looked at the town map and it looks like the trench is in the town’s right-of-way.
In other business:
• Town attorney Jack Birch swore in James Curtis as an officer for the North Webster Police Department.
• The Council heard from Alan Tio, CEO of the Kosciusko Economic Development Corporation, and Greg Fitzloff, business development partner with KEDCO, about KEDCO’s initiatives, including its housing, entrepreneurship and talent initiatives.
• The Council learned from Jayne Alger, project manager for Inframark, there is still brush around North Webster that needs to be picked up after a big storm in North Webster.
