Webster Approves Trail Grants ApplicationsNORTH WEBSTER – The North Webster Town Council approved a motion Tuesday to apply for grants for a bike trail.
After the meeting, Council President Dan Thystrup said the town is working with several organizations for grants, including the K21 Health Foundation.
The trail will connect the town of North Webster to Wawasee Middle School. Thystrup said the committee in Syracuse working on the trails will have a trail on their end meet at the middle school.
At the beginning of Tuesday’s meeting, Clerk-Treasurer Betsy Luce swore in Noah Kiessling as a police officer.
Police Chief Greg Church said Kiessling is from the Fort Wayne area and worked at the Allen County Jail for over two years. Church said Kiessling started with the police department a couple weeks ago, going through basic training. The police department is hoping to get him a uniform in a couple weeks and have him out in field training.
In other business, resident Larry Kinsey approached the Council about some work he wants to do at his house that may affect town property.
He said he is in the process of getting quotes to have larger boulders and field stones around his property. In order to do that, Kinsey would need permission to dump rocks before or after one of the town’s sewer lift station near his home. Kinsey said the work would be at his expense.
The Council approved a motion saying the work was OK.
Also, the Council:
• Approved an ordinance that would allow the town to collect any nonsufficient funds and lien fees that are incurred.
• Approved a proclamation making April Child Abuse Prevention Month.
• Suggested Jayne Alger, Inframark utilities manager, get a second quote to get work down for one of the utility department’s dump trucks.
Alger said the truck has an oil leak. She said the way the truck is, it is not driveable.
She was quoted $6,684.55 from Tom’s Truck Repair. A new truck would cost over $100,000.
