Webster Approves Increased Funding For KDI

NORTH WEBSTER - Kosciusko Development Inc. received a $250 increase from North Webster Town Council members Wednesday.

KDI, started in 1984, assists in the retention, expansion and attraction of businesses to the county.

Max Courtney, a KDI director, thanked the town council for its support last year in the amount of $500 and requested $750 this year, which was approved.

Public and private donations to KDI are matched by the Kosciusko County council. This year the nonprofit organization has asked for a $47,600 match.

Town council president Kay Andrews said the board supported KDI "because we know people work outside North Webster."

The small lake town does not have an industrially zoned area and many of its residents' employment is outside town limits.

Marshall Minnick, superintendent of works, sprang a request on the board saying the lab's roof at the wastewater treatment plant is leaking.

He presented three quotes for a rubber coating on the flat roof. The quotes were taken under consideration. The Bambi's Roofing quote was $2,450, the TJ Construction quote was $3,140 and the Lawnmaster quote was $3,304 for a gravel-coated roof.

Councilman Ken Wagoner thought a metal truss roof might last longer.

Minnick said Crystal Flash Road is scheduled to reopen July 28.

A gas main break caused an evacuation of residences and businesses two weeks ago.

Although utility lines were marked, the gas line lay outside the markings. A Cripe Excavating employee accidentally hit the line, forcing a three-hour emergency evacuation June 28.

In other business the board:

• Heard Tim Miller has been sworn in as a deputy marshal.

• Set a budget hearing for 5 p.m. Sept. 5 and budget approval for 5 p.m. Sept 17.

• Planned to attend the July 18 10 a.m. groundbreaking for more senior duplex units at Culver's Hill.

Council members will meet at the park at 11 a.m. July 18 to discuss parking lot renovation plans.

• Approved Robert Turner's request for a $253.94 reimbursement for damage caused by a sanitary sewer backup.

• Approved the bid submitted by Dave's Electric to replace the heating and air conditioning unit at Lakeview Restaurant.

Pat O'Connell's lease will be reworked to add $200 per month for the next 36 months to pay for the equipment.

The next town council meeting is Aug. 15 at 7 p.m. Council members are Kay Andrews and Ken Wagner. Jeff Morgan was absent.
