NORTH WEBSTER – Gary Dant is concerned with the fish in Webster Lake, so Tuesday night he earned approval from the North Webster Town Council to launch several fish attractors from town property.
Dant said his project has already earned approval from the fisheries and enforcement department of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
The attractors draw fish to the areas they are in and allow them a habitat to spawn.
Dant said by doing so, it will eventually help the local economy by bringing fishermen to the area.
Dant’s permit from the state to start the project is expected to be issued around Thanksgiving, with the building and placing of the attractors in several different spots of the lake planned shortly after.
There will be five different locations in the lake with 11 different attractors.
Dant, who will use the east end of Washington Street as one of his staging areas, said he would leave room for police and fire departments to access the area if needed.
The council worried if it would hinder those trying to take their boats or piers out from that area.
Dant said he would also work with anyone else while the staging of the attractors took place.
Trash pickup for North Webster will not be on Monday for Dec. 26 and Jan. 2 because of Christmas and New Year’s.
Instead, trash service from Borden’s will pick up those following Tuesdays.
The council approved the purchase of a new police vehicle after one was damaged in a collision with a deer last week.
The council approved Town Marshal Greg Church’s request to purchase a new vehicle with the funds that had previously been allocated for a new police car.
Greg Gear, from Severn Trent, said that 90 to 95 percent of leaves in North Webster have been picked up.
Crews will work until next week picking up leaves, weather depending.
The town council will hold its budget meeting Dec. 7 at 8:30 a.m. at North Webster Town Hall.
