Warsaw Community Schools' last public work session scheduled to specifically discuss the corporation's proposed $46-million building projects will be Thursday at 7 p.m. at Edgewood Middle School.
On the agenda so far for Thursday are presentations for a performing arts center and for restoration of Silver Lake Elementary.
Gregory A. Kil, of Kil Architecture and Planning, South Bend, who was hired by Silver Lake's Save Our School group and the Historic Landmarks Foundation, said at the school board's Dec. 18 meeting he would make his final report at Thursday's meeting.
Kil made a preliminary inspection of the school before the Dec. 18 meeting and told the board Dec. 18 the estimated construction costs previously quoted by The Odle McGuire & Shook Corp. were in line with similar projects, but the remodeling costs were higher than average.
The board has never said why it has considered only the estimated figures by Odle McGuire & Shook or why no other architectural firms have been asked for estimates.
In their report, OMS said their recommendation for elementary school size, 450 to 600 students, was based on extensive research, with schools, with more than 600 students considered not as effective unless they are divided into smaller units. Schools with fewer than 450 students were said to be inefficient in staffing, special services and operational costs.
Any discussion after Thursday of any of the building projects under consideration will take place at regularly scheduled school board meetings, according to the board's decision Dec. 18.
