Warsaw Community Schools announced the hiring of Carolyn Stalcup as the sixth- through 12th-grade orchestral director.

The orchestral strings program is being implemented into the curriculum of Warsaw Community Schools for the 2012-13 school year.

“The addition of Carolyn and the orchestra program is an example of Warsaw Community Schools’ dedication to provide all students a diverse curriculum that coincides with our mission to inspire and equip all students to continuously acquire and apply knowledge and skills while pursuing their dreams and enriching the lives of others,” said Chief Academic Officer David Hoffert.

Strings classes will be offered to sixth through 12th-grade students. The course being offered at the high school will be open to any student wanting to learn to play violin, viola, cello or double bass. This course is also open to students who can currently play an orchestral string instrument.

Strings classes are also being offered at both middle schools. The middle schools will also offer classes for students who would like to learn a string instrument, or who can currently play a string instrument.

Sixth-grade students will have the opportunity to learn a string or a band instrument. As part of the strings initiative, band is being offered to sixth-grade students for the first time in more than a decade. These classes will be offered before the elementary school day. Busing to the program location will be provided. Students will then be returned to their home school location for their traditional school day.

A welcome reception and informational opportunity for both the sixth- through 12th-grade orchestral program and the sixth-grade band will take place in the Edgewood Middle School commons May 16 from 6 to 7 p.m. This meeting will provide parents the opportunity to meet the new orchestra director and members of the band faculty. Information will also be available about program offerings, schedules, and upcoming instrument fittings.
