WCS Gets Good News On ISTEP

Posted
It's good news for Warsaw Community Schools.

WCS has the distinction of being one of six Indiana school systems that made Adequate Yearly Progress for two consecutive years on the ISTEP+.With WCS making AYP for a second consecutive year, the school system is no longer classified as a Title I school corporation under "corporation improvement."

Indiana Department of Education Superintendent of Public Education Dr. Suellen Reed, in a letter dated March 28 to WCS Superintendent Dr. Robert Haworth, officially notified Warsaw Schools of the status.

In her letter, Reed wrote, "You, your staff and your students have worked hard to attain this status. We applaud and admire your perseverance and commitment. You, too, should be proud of your accomplishment.

"We appreciate Warsaw Community School's commitment to improving the teaching and learning of Indiana's children."

WCS was in year three of school improvement. Last year, WCS made AYP but must make it for two continuous years to be out of sanctions.

WCS had missed AYP since 2002 and was put under state-mandated corrective actions. No Child Left Behind requires that each year every Indiana public school and school corporation be designated by the Indiana Department of Education to have made AYP or not. Schools must meet AYP not only with total population, but also with any subgroups within the student body. Warsaw has six subgroups.
