WCS Board Reorganizes

Posted

Two new members took their seats on the Warsaw School Board Monday as the board ushered in a new leadership team.

Dan Robinson and Deb Wiggins were sworn in at the noon Monday meeting, replacing Jim Folk and Craig Allebach, respectively.

It was the annual board reorganizing meeting, which, by state law, must be done by Jan. 15. The regular January board meeting is scheduled for Jan. 17.

In the selection for a school board president, Yeiter was nominated by Robinson, with Wiggins seconding the nomination. Folk was nominated by Larry Chamberlain, with Mark Minatel seconding.

Yeiter won, with votes by himself, Robinson, Wiggins and Gene England. Folk, Chamberlain and Minatel voted for Folk.

The same voting pattern applied to the vice presidential choice, with Wiggins nominating Robinson and England seconding the nomination.

Minatel nominated Folk, with Chamberlain's second, but Folk again was defeated 4 to 3.

Gene England unanimously was approved as board secretary.

Another item on the agenda, setting the times and dates for board meetings, brought on disagreement.

Board meetings are now at 7 p.m. on the third Monday of each month. Robinson moved to change the board meeting date to the second or fourth Monday of each month at 7 p.m., and Folk moved to keep the schedule as it is now.

Folk's motion met with four votes, and was opposed by Robinson. Wiggins abstained.

Mark Minatel retained his seat on the board temporarily, until the winner of District 4 is decided in a special election next month.

District 4 candidate Charles Sauders won by five votes over Sterling Watkins in November's vote, but Watkins name didn't appear in one of the ballot books at one precinct. Because of the ballot error, a new election was ordered by Kosciusko Circuit Court Judge Rex Reed.

Minatel agreed to serve until the District 4 winner is determined.

Members of the school board are: Larry Chamberlain, Gene England, Cathy Folk, Mark Minatel, Dan Robinson, Deb Wiggins and Ron Yeiter.
