WCS Board Considers Lucht Resignation

More than 60 personnel recommendations will be presented to the Warsaw School Board Monday, including the resignation of Dr. Jennifer Lucht and the hiring of a new varsity girls basketball head coach.

Wednesday afternoon, School Board President Ron Yeiter said Lucht's departure was a mutual agreement between Lucht and the board. Her resignation will be under consideration at Monday's special school board meeting at 6 p.m."We wish her the best," Yeiter said.

Because it is a personnel matter, Yeiter said he could not go into specifics. However, he said Lucht has been a good friend of his for a number of years. They both graduated from Warsaw High School in 1968.

"I'm sure she'll succeed at whatever she does," Yeiter said.

In a telephone interview Wednesday afternoon, Lucht said she's been with Warsaw Community Schools for 22 years. She's been in education for 30 years.

"I just decided to retire," she said of her departure.

Lucht said she is looking at teaching possibilities in higher education. "I need a new challenge," she said.

With her family in the area, Lucht said she plans to stay close by.

"Warsaw will always remain close to my heart," Lucht said.

Effective July 1, Warsaw Community High School Assistant Principal Troy Akers took over the principal duties at WCHS from Lucht. Lucht served as principal for the past five years, and was assistant principal for 12 years. She also taught at the former freshman high school for five years, and taught science at Mentone for eight years.

Before her resignation, Lucht was slated to become Warsaw Community Schools' director of development, a newly created position that was approved by the school board at its Feb. 18 meeting.

Also on Monday's school board agenda is the hiring of Michelle Harter as the WCHS varsity girls basketball head coach. Harter has been an assistant coach for Warsaw Schools at the varsity and junior varsity level. She currently is the physical education and health teacher at Lakeview Middle School.

Yeiter said since John Snyder's resignation from the coaching position, Harter has filled the void.

"She's helped out a lot," Yeiter said, with such activities as the basketball camp.

David Pierce will be recommended Monday to replace Amy Sivley as assistant principal at Lakeview Middle School. Pierce has 10 years of teaching experience with Huber Heights City Schools in Ohio.

Other personnel items on the board's agenda will include teacher resignations, hirings and extracurricular positions.

The special meeting will be at 6 p.m. Monday in the Central Instructional Materials Center Board Room, 1 Administration Drive, Warsaw. Board members are Yeiter, Vice President Dan Robinson, Secretary Gene England, Deb Wiggins, Tammy Dalton, Delores Hearn and Chuck Sauders.
