A former Warsaw School Board member will rejoin the board to finish the term of another member who is leaving.
Tamara Dalton, Warsaw, was appointed Wednesday to replace Larry Chamberlain, who is moving out of the school district. Dalton's appointment by the school board was in a special session called to interview candidates.
Of the six remaining board members, five voted for Dalton over the other four candidates: Peggy Lieffring, Tom Heuer, Scott Long and Janice Nelson. Cathy Folk voted for Long.
Each candidate was allotted 15 minutes Wednesday to read their answers to the board's questionnaire and to answer questions.
Dalton said she was seeking the position because she "wants to ensure that children in the system receive the best possible education we can afford to give them."
Issues she found most important were the budget and teacher training and support, and she cited her previous board experience, from 1996 to 1998, as an asset.
She also said she would like to see Claypool Elementary reopened, and that her position on the Warsaw Plan Commission would give her insight into the need for a school in the northern part of the district.
After her election by the board, Dalton said, "I look forward to helping again."
She will serve the remainder of Chamberlain's term, which will end in December 2006.
The board's regular meeting is at 7 p.m. Monday, at which time Dalton will be sworn in.
The school corporation also has scheduled two meetings - March 23 and 31 - to receive public input on "what must Warsaw Community Schools do to make our students the best they can be?"
The town hall meetings will take place in Lakeview Middle School auditorium.
