WCS Announces Co-teaching Collaboration with Grace College

Posted
Warsaw Community Schools, in collaboration with Grace College’s School of Education, is transitioning to a co-teaching model for teacher candidates during their student teaching placement.

Through this model, both teacher candidates and cooperating teachers co-plan and co-teach to achieve the following important outcomes:

– Improve the teacher to K-12 student ratio in the classroom;

– Enhance best classroom practices through collaboration and reflection;

– Increase instructional options to provide additional academic opportunities;

– Strengthen enrichment and remediation options;

– Embed and reinforce the concepts of Professional Learning Communities and data-driven decision making in the teacher candidate curriculum; and

– Create an atmosphere where the cooperating teacher serves as an in-classroom mentor and partner dedicated to student achievement.

Co-teaching pairs will be piloted in the spring with the intention of full program implementation taking place in the fall.
