Kristie Erickson, Copshaholm Curator at the Center for History, will talk about servants whose work made life possible in large manor homes in the Edwardian period on Sept. 26 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Warsaw Community Public Library. The talk will take a closer look into the jobs of the staff as seen in Downton Abbey and compare them to that of a real-world area example in South Bend's Oliver Mansion. Though they existed in the same time period, with a similarly sized family, the two homes were run quite differently. Guests will learn what a footman actually does, why Mrs. O’Brian is called “Mrs.” even though she has never been married, and just what it takes to make one of these large mansions run smoothly.
