Warsaw Community Public Library will feature an Our Heroes' Tree program Nov. 10 in honor of Veterans Day at 7 p.m.It is a way for residents to honor anyone who has ever served in the nation's military and to increase community awareness of the sacrifices made by service members and their families. This event is part of a national effort begun by Stephanie Pickup and Marlene Lee at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 2005.
The evening ceremony will begin with History of America's Involvement in War and flags representing those wars, presented by Ken Locke. Boy Scouts will present the flags and retire them. Warsaw Community High School band members also will play patriotic music as part of the ceremony.
Our Heroes' Tree will be on display from Saturday to Nov. 30, running alongside the Operation Compassion program, another WCPL veterans project. The public is invited to put a ribbon on the tree that represents their hero. Red, white and blue ribbons will be provided with red representing those who have lost their lives in service, white representing veterans who have served, and blue representing those currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.
