Change orders for renovations to the Warsaw Community Public Library were approved during Monday's WCPL board meeting. The change orders include installing limestone on the building exterior; repairing and spot priming the entrance drywall from sprinkler work; installing a sprinkler head at the entrance; adding the library's logo on the interior entrance and installing a corian for the base on the lower level of the library.

The original contract was $138,800 and the new contract is $165,669.

Library Director Ann Zydek said the library has made progress with renovations in the last month.

D & C Construction, South Whitley, began the library's front entrance renovations April 9.

The approximate cost of the project is $150,000 and the project is expected to be completed by July.

The library entrance currently faces north and will be moved to the east and west sides of the building.

Zydek also informed board members the library has hired a new children's librarian who will begin in September.

The board also:

n Approved a library staff vacation leave policy that allows staff time off through the end of August and the beginning of September due to the budget freeze. A employee may elect to reduce hours during pre-determined periods of time agreed upon between the library and employee.

n Approved a purchase policy revision for library employees that states staff members need to fill out a purchase request for small purchase items less than $50,000 and submit them to Zydek.

n Approved a fines and fees charge for patrons and staff including the use of computer printers at 25 cents per color page and the use of microfilm at 10 cents per page.

n Approved the library applying for a grant proposal for an $8,000 grant through the Library Services and Technology Act.

The library currently provides a workstation capable of assisting special needs patrons, but it is outdated according to the proposal.

The library would partner with Easter Seals to purchase a high performance computer that will include a large print keyboard and format display for those who are visually impaired and have special needs.

n Approved a $50 transfer from the 2007 budget appropriation from repair parts to other repair supplies.
