As part of a national partnership between the American Library Association and the RadioShack corporation, Warsaw Community Public Library is providing hands-on help from experienced local RadioShack technical professionals to help library patrons understand the digital television transition and how it may affect them. This local initiative is to help educate the public about the Digital Television Transition set to begin Feb. 17. At midnight, all full-power television stations in the U.S. will stop broadcasting in analog. People need to be prepared for this change. This crash course will help to do that.
WCPL will host an educational session for library patrons with local RadioShack Manager Tommy Puckett, meeting face-to-face with library patrons to explain the transition and answer questions.
Included in these sessions will be information about why the digital television transition is occurring, the benefits digital television offers television viewers, what people need to do in order to continue receiving over-the-air television broadcasts after the conversion occurs, and how to apply for up to two $40 government coupons per household to help reduce the costs of obtaining a digital converter box.
RadioShack's education outreach will also include demonstrations on how to successfully set up a digital converter box to an analog television set. In addition, there will be online sign-up available at this class for the TV converter box coupons.
The educational session will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. Attendance is expected to be heavy, so plan to come early.
