WCN, WCS Seek Donations for Tornado Victims

Posted
World Compassion Network and Warsaw Community Schools are  seeking donations to aid tornado victims in Clark County in southern Indiana.

A line of tornadoes that swept through the Midwest and southern U.S. Friday is responsible for at least 37 deaths across four states.

Ohio, Alabama, Kentucky and Indiana were pummeled as raging thunderstorms stirred up tornadoes that wiped out entire towns, according to the Associated Press. Among the most devastated areas was southern Indiana, where a strong twister led to extreme damage.

On Saturday, World Compassion Network delivered its 70,000-watt generator to the New Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department, according to Joe Wilkey, WCN executive director.

He said the town of Marysville is nearly destroyed.

“They are so pleased to have this generator,” Wilkey said.

On Wednesday, WCN will deliver a semi load of Gatorade.

The organization currently has several collection points in Warsaw to collect supplies to deliver to a distribution warehouse in Scottsburg.

The supplies will be delivered by Saturday morning.

This afternoon, the organization’s Disaster Relief trailer will be on site in southern Indiana to help with clean up.

The trailer is equipped with chain saws, portable lights, water pumps and an all-terrain vehicle.

The organization has a team going with the trailer to help clear debris.

There will be teams sent later to help take down unsafe buildings and clean building sites, Wilkey said.

Warsaw Community Schools student groups and Parent Teacher Organization mothers will be collecting items today through Thursday at the south side of the high school’s Performing Arts Center.

Metzger Trucking will have a semi trailer to collect the items.

Collection times will be from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the south side of the Performing Arts Center.

A collection site also is at the World Compassion office at 612 N. Detroit St. from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Thursday.

Warsaw Community Church Administration  Offices, 103 Enterprise Drive, also will have collection hours today from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon.

WCN also will be collecting items at the west side of the Justice Building on Washington Street today from 3 to 6 p.m. and Wednesday and Thursday from noon to 6 p.m.

Needed items are laundry detergent, tarps, clippers and tweezers, condiments, pillows, towels, coffee, tea, sugar, powdered and flavored drinks, denture products, gloves, lighters, antibiotic products, baby, children and adult tylenol, dog and cat food, non-perishable food, blankets, sheets, band-aids, shampoo and conditioner, body wash, shaving cream, razors, hair spray, trash bags, dish soap, flash lights, batteries, Isopropyl alcohol, salt and pepper, hydrogen peroxide, cases of bottled water, generators, chain saws, rakes, shovels, and totes with locking lids.

Funds also are needed to purchase the diesel fuel for the trip by WCN to southern Indiana and to purchase other needed supplies.

To send funds, mail them to WCN, P.O. Box 1152, Warsaw, IN 46581; on the memo line write “Disaster Relief.”
