More than 100 Warsaw Community High School students will celebrate the holidays with a Christmas Gala Sunday.
The public is invited to the variety show at 2:30 p.m. at the WCHS Performing Arts Center.
Admission is only $3 to see the band, choir, theater and video production students sing, play and perform. This is the first year for the event."We wanted to have a chance to showcase all the performing groups of the Performing Arts Center," said Scott Avery, choir director.
Even if someone without children attends, he said it's a great way for them to see what WCHS students are doing at the school and to check out the facility.
Dana McAfee, theater teacher, said the show will include the jazz ensemble, choir, video productions, a number from the hip-hop dance team, skits and band performances. There will be combinations, too, of the various groups, Avery said.
All the fun doesn't take place just during the show. Before the program commences, Avery said there will be students performing in the lobby area. Santa Claus also will make an appearance.
The two 4-minute videos will showcase the work of students in Dave Baumgartner's class. He said one video is a version of the "12 Days of Christmas," and another is a take on the popular "Alvin and Chipmunks" Christmas song.
Avery said the choir will sing a variety of different style songs. Some will be novelty songs, others more serious.
Theater students will do a reader's theater performance based on "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever," McAfee said. There also will be a monologue, a skit where two kids find out their mother is going to have a baby, poetry and the "10 commandments of Christmas."
Avery said the two-hour show is well-paced and will flow well.
Seating is general admission. Avery said tickets can be purchased at the PAC box office 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday or at the door Sunday.
With more than 100 students taking part, McAfee said, "It's a neat chance for the individual groups to watch each other, too, and work together."
"It's fun that it's a department-wide event, we all get to participate," said Avery.
