WCHS Students Honored For Achievement, Attendance

Bermuda, Bahamas, Puerto Rico and Hawaii are just a few of the places known for being tropical paradises.

But while Warsaw Community High School students didn't get any further than the Tiger Den Thursday, a little flavor of the tropics was brought to them during the 10th Annual WCHS Renaissance Recognition Convocation.

The theme this year was "Tropical Paradise."

The annual event recognizes many students who achieved greatly in the areas of attendance, citizenship and academics, as well as teachers, staff and volunteers for their work. Besides certificates, trophies and medals, students also had opportunities to win prizes ranging from CDs to a car.

Approximately 80 WCHS students who had perfect attendance during the 2004-05 school year were eligible to win the black 1996 Sunfire GT with a sunroof, courtesy of The Car Company. This year's winner was freshman Kevin Pownall.

Winning laptop computers with printers, donated by Biomet, were freshman Brittony Rogers and senior Rebekah Reichard. Their names were drawn randomly from all students with an "A" grade point average. An "A" GPA is 10 or higher on a 12-point scale.

For more award recipients from the convocation Thursday, see page 7A in today's Times-Union.
