WCHS Speech Team Heading To District

The Warsaw Community High  School speech team had an unprecedented number of placings at the  sectional level Feb. 29 at Concord High School in  in Elkhart. The team will be heading to the entries. The team is only in their second year of competition.

The WCHS 10-member team competed against students from 15 different schools, some of which had over 40 entries.

WCHS Principal Troy Akers shared his appreciation for the team’s efforts and successes. He said, “As the principal of WCHS, I am very proud of the accomplishments of our speech team. In just two short years, our team has developed into a very competitive group.” He added, “I would like to thanks our coaches for their commitment to our students. I wish all students the best as we prepare for district and state competition.”

The team will also compete Saturday at the NSDA (National Speech and Debate Association) district competition to be held at Plymouth High School.

The public is invited to the State Speech Showcase today from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the WCHS Performing Arts Center. According to head coach Katie Anders, the showcase will allow competitors to perform their selections before an audience before entering into two weekends of extremely difficult competition. Anders said, “This is a chance for our community to see the wide range of talents and dedication of our team.”

Tickets for the showcase performance will be available at the door for a donations of $6. All the proceeds will be used to defray the expenses for entrance fees for the state competition.
