Posted
“Our Town” is coming to our city when the Warsaw Community High School Drama Department presents the play this weekend.
The play, set in the early 20th century, will be on the WCHS Performing Arts Center stage Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens. Pre-sale tickets for reserved seating are available by contacting the WCHS Performing Arts Center box office at 574-371-5040.
According to a synopsis provided by show co-director Erin Mills, “This play, by Thorton Wilder, explores a beautiful, quaint little town called Grover’s Corners in the year 1901. While the town is a major focal point of the play, Wilder centers the plotlines on the people that call Grover’s Corners home.
“It is set in three acts. The first act discusses the history of the town and the people, specifically the friendship growing between two young people, George and Emily. The second act moves forward in time and takes a close look at George and Emily’s romantic relationship, and ends with their wedding. And the third act looks at how death affects this little town and how the dead perceive the living.
“It is an incredibly moving and poignant show that captures effortlessly the true emotions and hardships of everyday people,” the synopsis concludes.
“Our Town” won the 1938 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, the 1989 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Revival and the 1989 Tony Award for Best Revival.
