Trine University held its 37th annual High School Mathematics Competition recently. Out of 36 competing teams from 17 different high schools, Warsaw Community High School's two teams took second and sixth place. Individual scores accounted for 60 percent of the scoring, and a team problem-solving portion constituted the remaining 40 percent of the contest. Based on their top three finishes, the second-place team earned the WCHS math department a $500 stipend toward math education. Students on the second-place team were Elise Smith, Eric Smolen, Grant Carlson and Bryce Carter. Students on the sixth-place team were Zac Erba, Alek Jansen, Andrew Cox and Lucille Rich. The students are coached by Amanda Taylor and Chuck Wiebe.
