WCHS Collects Food For CCS

Posted
WCHS Collects Food For CCSAs part of the Warsaw Community High School Winter Fest, the freshman class held its annual food drive for Combined Community Services.

Jeanette Sanchez, freshman class president, said the food drive took place over four days. The goal was to collect 3,000 cans, but the end result was just shy of 2,500.

"It was really fun organizing this," Sanchez said. "... It was fun. It was great helping."

All the food items were loaded into a truck and delivered to CCS Tuesday afternoon.

First-period classes competed to see which class could collect the most cans. Chris Foster's class won with 525 cans. Foster's class will get a sundae party, and Foster will receive $30 for use in her classroom.

Alan Clark's class was second, with Shirlee Clevenger's class taking third place.

During Winter Fest, the student council organized games like dodgeball where the entry fee was canned food items.

Peggi Lisenbee-Wright, CCS executive director, said, "Thank you to the WCHS students for collecting food. CCS's food pantry serves nearly 600 Kosciusko County families each month. During the continuing economic crisis, collections such as this one provides much-needed food items to assure that no family in our community goes hungry."
