FORT WAYNE – The Warsaw Community High School Band achieved outstanding results at District Solo and Ensemble Contest Jan. 28. The Tigers’ Pride had a total of 23 solos and 10 ensembles entered in the competition, which took place at Carroll High School in Fort Wayne. Fourteen solos and nine ensembles were awarded a Gold rating. Nine solos and one ensemble received Silver ratings. Eleven of the solos and seven of the ensembles qualified for State Solo and Ensemble contest to be held Feb. 25 in Indianapolis. Soloists earning Gold ratings and qualifying for State Contest are: Jordan Friddle, Beth Koontz, Ben Meulink (for three solos), Hannah McCarty, Cari O'Hara, Drew Tomasik, Patrick Sullivan (for two solos), Kristen Waikel. Ensembles earning Gold ratings and qualifying for State Contest are: the Clarinet Choir, the Saxophone Ensemble, the Trumpet Choir, the Large Brass Choir and three percussion ensembles. Gold ratings were also earned by Alondra Araujo, Crispin Raisler, Megan Smith, the Flute Trio and the Flute Choir. Silver ratings were earned by Jenny Crim, Olivia Fisher, Leigha Lindsey, Raven Loubert, Cari O’Hara, Shelby Poe, Lennon Ratliff, Erin Shuler, Kyle Smith and the Trombone Quartet. The public is invited to hear performances by many of the state-qualifying solos and ensembles at the WCHS Honors Recital at 7 p.m. Feb. 23. The recital will be held in the WCHS Black Box Theater, and admission is free.
