Warsaw Community High School art students received 23 awards in the individual entry categories and seven more awards in the Senior Portfolio category at the 2012 Scholastic Arts Awards Competition. The Gold Key winners will be judged at the national level in New York. The recognition for individual artwork is an honor and having works on display at a well-known gallery is prestigious. The individual students receiving Gold Key Awards are Zoe Marshall (three Golds), Nakita Lollar, Jesse Miller, Dannielle Murphy, Chelsea O’Neil and Nicholas Poe. The Silver Key winners are Savannah Cousins, Miranda Engle, Julie Hartman, Bethany Lawlor, Skyler Newsome, Joshua Norman, Henry Robison and Hayley Smith. The students who received Honorable Mention and whose work will be also displayed in the exhibit are Rachel Beery, Stephanie Loney, Taylor Oligee, Brittney Rhodes, Henry Robison (two awards) and Kaitlyn Shriner. In addition to the individual entries, the seniors in Studio Art AP also submitted their complete portfolios to be judged. This is a chance for students to pull together their finest pieces and package them into a well-organized and thoughtful presentation of their body of work. These are also used for scholarship applications and for entrance into fine art programs. Jesse Miller earned a Gold Key Award for his portfolio. Silver Key Awards were given to Samantha Bentley, Jay Holladay and Samantha Taylor. Students receiving Honorable Mention were Zoe Marshall, Dannielle Murphy and Chelsea O’Neil. Warsaw won more portfolio awards than any other high school in the region. The Scholastics Art Awards ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. Feb. 12, and the work will be on display at the Warner Gallery at the South Bend Century Center from then until March 4.
