The Warsaw Community High School Band recently completed a successful solo and ensemble season.
Seventeen soloists advanced from the district-level contest, held Jan. 30, to state solo and ensemble contest, held in Indianapolis Feb. 27. Fifteen out of those 17 solos earned Gold ratings and two received Silver ratings. Six ensembles also advanced to state - the flute choir, sax choir, brass choir and three percussion ensembles. All six received Gold ratings for their performances.The soloists who received Gold ratings were: Johanna Caron, Harrison Clarke, Crystal Drake, Samantha Fisher, Jordan Friddle, Joel Helms, Tyler Kuhn, Thomas Murphy, Nathan Sheetz, Kayla Smith, Emily Sumner, Marisa Vogel and Mackenzie Ziegler. Thomas Murphy and Sharahaya Raisler earned Silver ratings.
The student members of the ensembles are:
Flute Choir: Johanna Caron, Justin Cordero, Marlenne Devia, Crystal Drake, Tyler Kuhn, Eva Hanft (conductor), Cari O'Hara, Sharayaha Raisler, Jamielynn Tinkey, McKenzie Ziegler.
Sax Choir: Marika Bolden, Harrison Clarke, Zoe Marshall, Adrian Norris, Jon Pifer, Nicholle Potter, Christopher Yingling.
Brass Choir: Kyle Alcala, Samantha Bennett, Samantha Fisher, Eva Hanft (conductor), Joel Helms, Andrew Kelley, Jason Kennedy, Gerardo Lopez, Trenton Marshall, Josh Melgoza, Shelby Poe, Trent Shumaker, Zack Shumaker, Kayla Smith, Kyle Smith, Shannon Sterling, Meghan Wiseman.
Percussion Ensemble Members: Todd Eastis, Zarek Finley, Jordan Friddle, Curtis George, Ryan Holderman, Logan Howie, Mike Howie, Jason Kennedy, Chris Kolanowski, Braxton Larson, Jesse Miller, Thomas Murphy, Nathan Sheetz.
Students who enter solo and ensemble contest at the "Group I" level advance to state contest if they receive a Gold rating at district. Band members who did not enter "Group I", but received Gold ratings for their solo performances at district were Leigha Lindsey, Cari O'Hara, Shelby Poe and Christopher Yingling.
The second Flute Choir also received a Gold rating. Members of Flute Choir II are: Lauren Alcorn, Katie Conley, Miranda Engle, Julie Hartman, Tyler Kuhn (conductor), Nicholle Potter, Sharayaha Raisler.
Soloists who earned a Silver rating at district contest are: Justin Cordero, Amber Drake, Crystal Drake, Raven Loubert, Brandon Lee, Gerardo Lopez and Sabrina Winterrowd.
Ensembles receiving a Silver rating at district contest are:
Sax Quartet: Jana Blackwell, Amber Drake, Mikala Shirey and Sabrina Winterrowd.
Clarinet Choir: Kyle Alcala, Griselda Araujo, Tyler Kuhn (conductor), Eva Hanft, Kate Heath, Robyn Jones, Brandon Lee, Leigha Lindsay, Elizabeth Reusser, Emily Sumner and MacKenzie Ziegler.
The flute choirs are under the direction of Dianne Martin-Ratliff. The ensembles are under the direction of WCHS Band Directors Mickey Ratliff and Emily Mikel.
