John Elliott commented on his recent appearance before the Warsaw city council during the Warsaw Community Development Corp. meeting Thursday.
He requested the annual $12,000 donation to the group and asked for office space in city hall.
Currently the WCDC offices are housed in the Chamber of Commerce building and monthly rent is $500. Lease space from the city would be about half that amount.
Elliott said it would aid in communication during implementation of the HyettPalma downtown action agenda, too.
The members heard a report from executive director Carmen Lock regarding the City of Lakes Festival. Income generated included $4,250 from crafters, $1,400 from food vendors and more than $9,000 in donations, for a total of $15,050.
The WCDC gave financial support to the parks department, kiddie area, the YMCA's 3 on 3 basketball tournament, Cubmobile races, parade, Lake City Skiers, the Warsaw Community High School and NorthWood High School bands for participation in the three-day event. Expenses were $4,288.75
Lock said changes will be made next year, including moving the craft vendors to a more prominent position and perhaps making the festival a two-day event.
The WCDC also:
Selected Ann Zydek as vice president.
Received $1,900 interest from the Kosciusko County Community Foundation account.
Heard the Kosciusko County Fair Board will charge for parking on the grounds during next year's fireworks. Elliott said a $3 parking fee would be split between the board, the WCDC and any organization who wishes to assist that evening.
Tabled adoption of bylaws text regarding the executive committee due to lack of a quorum.
Heard from Jon Garber, parks superintendent that the Blues Jam is Saturday at 6 p.m. with Doc Watkins and the Hard Pack, Summertime Blues at 7 p.m. and the Chicago Kings Rhythm and Blues Band at 8 p.m. Country star Phil Vassar will appear July 26.
The next WCDC meeting is Aug 28 at 11 a.m. in the Chamber of Commerce's meeting room.
