A farmer's market, bicycle event and taste of downtown are events that are being planned in Warsaw for this summer.
That is what Stephanie Salyer, Warsaw Community Development Corp. events coordinator, informed board members during Tuesday's WCDC board of directors meeting.
"We have been very busy meeting and planning events for this summer," Salyer said.
Salyer said the events committee has discussed a farmer's market opening the first week of June and running through the end of October on Buffalo Street. The city council will need to approve the location once the committee finalizes plans for the market, according to Clint Pletcher, WCDC president.
The committee will meet today with the County Extension Office to continue to discuss the market.
She said the committee also has spoken with the health department about restrictions that must be met for the market.
Salyer said Kosciusko County residents, as well as residents outside the county, have contacted her about selling items such as maple syrup and organic food at the market.
A bicycle event also is being planned for Aug. 25, but the bike route is yet to be determined. A 5K or 3K walk is being considered in conjunction with the bicycle event that also may include music festivities.
Lincoln Highway garage sales that run through downtown and along Center Street will be Aug. 11, and Taste of Downtown is set for Sept. 23.
Salyer said grants are being looked into to provide funding for the market and bicycle event.
"The committee has been doing an outstanding job and we are excited about the events that are being planned," Pletcher said.
Pletcher also informed the board he and Carmen Lock, executive director of WCDC, are still speaking with Combined Community Services who have expressed interest in purchasing the Comstock House.
CCS has requested a price to purchase the house in one year.
Lock informed board members that David Terrell, executive director of Indiana Main Street Community and Rural Affairs, will meet with board members April 3 to discuss future projects that will benefit Main Street communities.
