Warsaw Community Development Corp. Tuesday approved making interest-only payments for a year on the Comstock House.

The house is at 221 S. High St. and provides affordable housing. The house has six apartments, four of which are currently vacant. WCDC owns the Comstock House.Cindy Dobbins, WCDC vice president, said the corporation does not have the income to continue making payments on the house.

"We are in a pinch covering expenses for the house," Dobbins said.

Dobbins said WCDC has funds in its operating budget to make the interest payments on the house.

The board approved making interest-only payments for a year on the Comstock House.

In other business, Dobbins informed the board that fireworks over Winona Lake are July 3 at dusk.

She said the reason the fireworks are July 3 is that the animals for the Kosciusko County Community Fair are going to be dropped off at the fairgrounds July 4. There was a concern that if the fireworks were on the 4th they would disturb the animals.

WCDC Events Coordinator Stephanie Salyer informed the board that she has been meeting with a planning committee to plan Downtown Days.

The event is Aug. 8 in Warsaw. The committee is working on funding and sponsorship for the event.

Warsaw Mayor Ernie Wiggins informed the corporation a new bicycle rack has been purchased by the city. It was installed last week by Warsaw Parks Department employees on the northwest corner of the city parking lot.

Kevin Zachary, Biblical Gardens, provided an update on the gardens.

He said there have been 10 tours and two weddings scheduled this month. He said people are needed to provide tours of the Biblical Gardens.
