Wawasee's Soccer Loss To No. 15 Goshen Leads Roundup

GOSHEN — Facing the Class 2A No. 15 Goshen boys soccer team on the road Tuesday, the Wawasee Warriors hung around, but fell 1-0. Wawasee actually appeared to have scored a goal in the 15th minute, but it was called back by an official. Remaining scoreless into the second half, Goshen broke into the scoring column with a penalty kick goal in the 50th minute, helping the team remain perfect at 5-0 in the Northern Lakes Conference and 9-1-1 overall. Korey Knafel had eight saves for the Warriors, who dropped to 4-1-5 on the season and 2-1-2 in the NLC. Wawasee goes out of conference for a home game against Lakeland Thursday, then travels to Warsaw Saturday afternoon. GOSHEN 1, WAWASEE 0 Wawasee Stats: Saves – Korey Knafel 8. Boys Cross Country Tuesday in Nappanee The Wawasee boys cross country team suffered a pair of Northern Lakes Conference losses Tuesday, falling 27-28 to host NorthWood and 19-38 to Goshen. Zach Cockrill did finish third overall for the Warriors with a time of 17:31. The losses leave Wawasee at 1-4 in the NLC and the team will be at Saturday’s Culver Academies Invitational. Girls Cross Country Tuesday in Nappanee In a three-team Northern Lakes Conference meet in Nappanee Tuesday, the Wawasee girls cross country team defeated NorthWood 17-46, but lost to Goshen 21-35. Courtney Linnemeier finished third for the Warriors in a time of 21:20, with teammate Sarah Harden placing fifth overall in 21:59. Girls Soccer Tuesday in Syracuse Hosting Northridge for a Northern Lakes Conference game Tuesday, the Wawasee girls soccer team was defeated 8-1. Wawasee’s score came from Caitlin Clevenger on a penalty kick in the 10th minute. The loss leaves Wawasee at 1-10 overall and 0-3 in the NLC. Monday in North Manchester In Three Rivers Conference play Monday, the host Manchester girls soccer team lost 1-0 to Rochester. Kiera Stacy had four saves in the loss, as Manchester is now 4-6-1 going into today’s home game against Maconaquah. Boys Tennis Tuesday in South Whitley The Whitko boys tennis team got a 3-2 home win over Tippecanoe Valley Tuesday. For Whitko Cole Bechtold won at No. 1 singles, while its No. 1 doubles team of Alex Robbins and Alex Bechtold also got a victory, as did its No. 2 doubles team of Nick Rose and Jared Arnold. Valley’s wins came at No. 2 and 3 singles, where Wyatt Nelson and Keith Wright were victorious, respectively. In the Northern State Conference loss, Triton did get victories from Jared Fisher at No. 1 singles and Mace Eads at No. 3 singles. The loss leaves Triton at 7-7 overall and 1-5 in the NSC.
