This letter is in regard to the lack of ethics of the sports (volleyball) programs at Wawasee Community School Corp.
This is actually for all the parents and players of any local community school that have spent timeless hours of running to practices, games, and outside leagues to participate in local high school sports; to players, especially upper classmen who have been totally dedicated, committed, and loyal to their programs from very young ages.
Players who have contributed greatly to their teams and have been valuable assets to only be tossed aside like a piece of trash. There was a recent transpiration of events at Wawasee High School - mainly the volleyball program - that was a true example of how shaded our high school sports programs have really become. How coaches have forgotten the true meaning of what this time for our youth is all about and how much importance is placed on high school athletics to actually supercede even the importance of academics to obtain glory for the school system.
How coaches of today do not care about the youth they are supposed to be developing and toss any of them, at any point, aside with complete indifference and no compassion for the betterment of their own personal careers. Tossing away upper classmen who have been great assets to their teams, that have been dedicated to the program for over six years - well earning their position - to keep new incoming individuals to the program that previously did not care to play or were not from this school at all.
The Wawasee volleyball program does not have a limit of how many players can be on a team and the numbers of girls wanting to play was not an excessive amount, yet two upper classmen with phenomenal, mature, developed playing ability were eliminated, as were other upper classmen told not to even bother trying out.
These were girls with great personalities, attitudes and also high academic grades.
A letter recently was sent to the current head volleyball coach at Wawasee from a past, very honorable, decorated alumna of Wawasee Athletics.
The coach gave as much regard to the letter as she did to the player that it was referring to. In fact, no response to the letter was ever received by the alumna from any of the coaches or athletic directors at Wawasee High School, which only confirms their indifference and how shaded their ethical and moral awareness to the patrons of this community has really become.
