SYRACUSE - The search for a new boys' basketball coach at Wawasee High School will end tonight when the school board is expected to appoint Jerry Davis.
Davis spent the last three years teaching math and coaching varsity basketball at Triton Central High School, located south of Indianapolis. He has a lifetime record at the varsity level of 31-29.
The Shelbyville News confirmed Monday that Davis left Triton Central to take the Wawasee job.
Triton Central improved each year under Davis, going 6-14 the first season, 11-9 the second and 14-6 the last season.
Jim Brown, Triton Central athletic director, gave Davis much of the credit for the improving records.
"He's a very hard-working coach," Brown said. "He puts a lot of time and effort into the program. He cares a lot about the kids. He puts a lot of time into organization and scouting. He does a heckuva job with pregame preparation. His teams are very disciplined."
Before he took the job at Triton Central, Davis was an assistant basketball coach at a high school in Texas.
Davis will replace Gary Goshert, who left to become the head boys' coach at Manchester High School.
