SYRACUSE -ÊStudents in the Wawasee School Corp. will tentatively attend school until June 9 due to snow delays, the school board announced Tuesday.
That date assumes there will be no further cancellations. Seniors will graduate May 28 as scheduled. It is also their last day of classes.
Superintendent Dr. Mark Stock also reported the 1998 ISTEP results to the school board.
Third grade students in Wawasee schools are 80 percent above the state standard and 20 percent below in math, 67 percent above the standard and 32 percent below in English and language. For combined scores, they are 61 percent above the state standard and 13 percent below.
Sixth grade students are 64 percent above the standard in math, 35 percent below; 58 percent above in English and language and 39 percent below. The students were 50 percent above the state standard on combined scores and 25 percent below.
Eighth-graders were 69 percent above the standard and 26 below in math, 74 percent above in English and language, and 22 percent below. Their combined scores were 62 percent above the standard and 15 percent below in both math and English.
Tenth-graders were 70 percent above in math, 29 percent below; 78 percent above in English and language, and 20 percent below. They were 63 percent above the standard for combined scores and 15 percent below the national norm in both.
Statewide, 83 percent of the class of 2000 was above the state standard in English and and language and 72 percent was above in math.
For the Wawasee class of 2000, 88 percent was above the state standard in English and language and 85 percent above in math.
Wawasee School Board voted Tuesday to allow Superintendent Mark Stock to pursue property for a new school building in North Webster. There is no guarantee that the corporation will buy property as it is just an option they are looking at to determine costs.
