Wawasee teacher Julie Hayes was named the recipient of the "Cheryl Cowen Science Award."
Hayes was chosen because of exemplary science activities practiced in her classroom as well as presenting mini-workshops for the staff of all three Wawasee elementary schools.
The award is named in memory of Cowen, an Indiana science teacher who had often been recognized for her outstanding work with science in her classroom.
Hayes was also selected as one of the few Indiana teachers selected to go to San Francisco to learn and study for a week with other teachers from across the United States.
