Wawasee Swimmers Lead Roundup With Second-Place Finish

SYRACUSE – Wawasee finished second overall in its swimming invitational meet Saturday. Logan Brugh won the 500-yard freestyle race and finished second in the 200 freestyle. Brady Robinson finished third in the 200 individual medley. The Warrior 200 freestyle relay team also finished third. Wrestling Saturday in Syracuse Wawasee went 1-3 in its own tournament Saturday, defeating Angola while falling to Plymouth, Heritage and Northridge. Tristin Ponsler and Stephen Possell recorded four wins each for the Warriors. Manchester went 2-2 in the same tournament, defeating Angola 34-15 and John Glenn 46-18 while dropping decisions to Northridge 51-21 and Plymouth 60-21. Squires Clayton Moore (138), Jared Gable (145) and Quentin Moore (152) finished the day with 4-0 records. Collin Meggisson (132) went 3-1, Landon Tharp (182) went 2-1, while Trey Addair (126) and Ryan Kendall (160) finished 2-2. Wawasee will be off until traveling to Nappanee to take on NorthWood Jan. 8. Manchester travels to the Rochester Invitational tomorrow, with the meet starting at 9 a.m.
Saturday in Osceola Warsaw’s wrestlers went 2-3 at the Penn Super Duals on Saturday. The Tigers beat Culver Military 52-18 and Homestead 42-32, while falling to Penn 51-27, Edwardsburg (Mich.) 57-21 and NorthWood 43-30. Kyle Hatch (120 pounds) and Rory Nolin (195) went 5-0 on the day. Jeremy Lee (132) and Andrew Brock (220) both went 4-1 and Anthony Penn (hwt.) went 3-1. Hatch and Nolin are both 17-0 so far this season. Next up for the Tiger wrestlers is a trip to the Mishawaka Invitational Dec.30-31.
Saturday in Lakeville Tippecanoe Valley’s wrestlers went 1-4 at the LaVille Super Duals. Medalists were Devin Childers at 132 pounds, Wyatt Nelson at 138 and Garrett Bell at 182. The Vikings will return to action Tuesday when they travel to Rochester for the John McKee Memorial tournament.
Girls Basketball Saturday in Goshen Lakeland Christian Academy finished third in the Bethany Christian Invitational on Saturday. The Lady Cougars dropped a 52-36 decision to the host Lady Bruins in the opening round. Rachel Sand had 18 points and seven rebounds for the Lady Cougars, with Hannah Delp adding seven points. Maryl Gerst scored four points, and Carissa Urschalitz added three. Ashley Ornsby tallied two points each. In the consolation game, LCA beat South Bend Trinity Christian 59-31 to earn third place. Sand had a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds, and was named to the all-tournament team. Delp hit five three-pointers on her way to 23 points in the game. Gerst had six points, Goss had four, with Urschalitz and Ormsby two points each. The Lady Cougars are off until they host Granger Christian in the opening round of the Lakeland Christian Classic at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 2.
Boys Basketball Saturday in N. Manchester Chainey Zolman had 23 points, with David McAtee adding 21 in an 87-58 loss to Leo Saturday night. Leo shooters hit 20 three-point shots, with A. The Cougars dropped a 67-32 decision to the host school in the opening round, then a 70-34 loss to South Bend Trinity in the consolation round. Saturday in Akron Alex Thacker scored 23 points, and Neil Clampitt added 20 in Tippecanoe Valley’s 63-59 victory over Oregon-Davis. Chandler O’Connor added 11 for the Vikings. Clampitt also pulled down 11 rebounds to lead Valley. After a halftime tie, the Vikings forged an 11-point lead after three quarters. Oregon-Davis outscored Valley 25-18 in the fourth period, but Valley hung on for the win. Now 4-3, the Vikings are off until January 2 when they host Rochester in the opening round of The Winning Edge Tournament.
