Wawasee Swim Team Leads Roundup With Convincing Win

SYRACUSE – Wawasee High School's girls swim team opened its season with a dominating performance against DeKalb Saturday. The host Lady Warriors won all 12 events and cruised to a 149-29 victory. Breanna Robinson, who recently signed a Division I letter of intent with Purdue University, and Kayla Hershberger were both a part of four wins. Robinson won the individual medley an the butterfly and was also a part of the winning 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay teams. Hershberger won the 100 frestyle and backstroke and teammaed with Robinson for the two relay wins. Wawasee's Paige Miller swam to individual wins in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle.
GIRLS BASKETBALL Friday in Bluffton Manchester’s Lady Squires girls basketball team opened its season with a 45-32 loss to the Bluffton Lady Tigers. After trailing by eight points at the end of the third quarter, the Lady Squires managed to cut the lead to four by the end of the third period. Bluffton outscored Manchester 14-5 in the fourth quarter to ice the game. Manchester’s leading scorer was sophomore Bailey Sewell, who finished with 10 points. Senior Celina Cater and sophomore Drew Thompson score eight points each, with sophomore Cierra Carter rounding out the Lady Squire scoring with six points. Saturday in South Whitley Whitko moved to 2-1 on the season with a 52-47 win over Churubusco. The Lady Wildcats were led by Aly Reiff with 20 points, including a three-pointer and a 7-8 effort from the line. Brianna Cumberland had a pair of three-pointers and went 7-11 from the line to score 17 points. The Lady Wildcats return to action Friday when they travel to Huntington North for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff. Churubusco fell to 1-1 on the season.
