SYRACUSE – A ninth-grader at Wawasee High School was taken into police custody last month for allegedly pouring glass cleaner into a teacher’s drink. According to a report made available at the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, a freshman girl at Wawasee High School admitted to pouring glass cleaner into her English teacher’s juice drink while the teacher was talking to another student. The incident occurred March 29, and Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department deputy Jeff Howie was called in to investigate. Howie received statements from two students who said they saw the girl pour the cleaner into the teacher’s bottle of Snapple. One student notified the teacher before she took a drink from the container. When confronted by Howie, the student suspected of pouring the cleaner admitted to doing it. The student was handcuffed and taken to the Syracuse Police Department. Howie told the student she would be charged with criminal recklessness. The student’s statement said she wasn’t mad at the teacher but she “just made a bad choice.”The student and teacher had a verbal confrontation earlier in the day about the student talking during class. According to the students, several inches of the cleaner were poured into the teacher’s drink. When contacted Friday night, a Kosciusko Community Hospital health supervisor refused to comment about the adverse side effects of consuming such a cleaner.
